Gun men kills 2 people & a police man yesterday

Unknown gunmen shot and killed two persons, including a policeman in Amadi- Ama axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers State yesterday morning.

This is as the police said it has arrested 25 persons in connection with the incident, though National Mirror learnt that some of those arrested may be innocent.

The incident occurred barely 48 hours after no fewer than seven persons were killed by yet-to-beidentified armed men in Omoku, headquarter of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area of the state.

It was gathered that yesterday’s killing occurred at about 7am, when residents of the area were preparing to attend church service.

Eyewitness said no sooner had they tried to raise the alarm on sighting four suspicious armed youths, than they struck.

It was gathered that the other victim (name withheld) is believed to be a strong member of the Greenlander cult group. One of the eyewitnesses said the bandit died on the spot after being shot, but that the policeman was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he gave up the ghost.

The circumstances leading to the shooting of the policeman was not clear at press time, even as the development led to mass arrest by the police.

Wife of one of the persons arrested, Mrs. Seline Koko, said her husband, Mr. Silas, was ironing his clothes when he was arrested by the police, insisting that he was arrested unjustly.

Mrs. Koko lamented that her efforts to trace the police station where her husband was taken to was unsuccessful, just as she appealed to the police authorities and state government to release her husband.

Confirming the report, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, said 25 persons had been arrested in connection with the incident.
