Following Chief Olusengun Obasanjo’s vituperations against President Jonathan Goodluck, hundreds of ex-militants thronged the Ohoror Junction axis of the East-West Road, promising to bar the former president from stepping foot on the Niger Delta region.

Mr. Preye Ekpebide, Delta State Chairman Phase Three Amnesty Programme, who addressed newsmen during the peaceful protest, said Obasanjo’s aspersion on Jonathan was as a result of his failure to use the president as a puppet and surrogate.

Obasanjo is Nigeria's number one enemy, he is a cancer - Fayose

Press statement from the office of the Ekiti state
government below...
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has
described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the
number one enemy of Nigeria, saying; "he is a
confusionist who has lost his status as a statesman
and Nigerians should simply ignore him."
The governor, who expressed confidence that
President Goodluck Jonathan will be reelected to
complete his eight years term, added that; "Obasanjo
is only fighting President Jonathan because he
prevented him (Obasanjo) from ruling Nigeria from his
Ota Farm."
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant
on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka,
Governor Fayose said "Obasanjo is a cancer that may never
get cured in a lifetime.
"The moment Obasanjo is not the one controlling a house,
he will want the house pulled down but this time around, he
has failed."
The governor said; "Obasanjo has always benefitted from
the misfortune of others and he is living with the impression
that he is the wisest person in the whole world.
"When Murtala Mohammed was murdered in 1976,
Obasanjo was the beneficiary.
"In 1993, he said the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993
presidential election, late Chief MKO Abiola was not the
Messiah Nigeria needed. Instead of Obasanjo to join the
clamour for the actualisation of Abiola's mandate, Obasanjo
was canvassing for an Interim National Government, which
he schemed to head.
"MKO Abiola died in detention in 1997 and Obasanjo
became the beneficiary of his (Abiola) death.
"Despite the fact that it was the blood of MKO Abiola that
Obasanjo matched on to power, not even a street was
named after Abiola throughout Obasanjo’s eight years as
president.
"Today, Obasanjo is fighting President Jonathan, the man
who has done what he failed to do for Abiola, the Yoruba
people and Nigerians as a whole when he was president for
eight years, simply because he does not want anyone to
equal his record as Nigeria's longest serving president.
"President Jonathan has made it impossible for Obasanjo
to run his presidency for him and for this reason, he is
supporting Buhari, hoping that he will be the one to
nominate ministers for Buhari if he becomes president.
"Abanije eniyan to nba eeyan je kiri, ojo to ba dekun ibaje
ni won maa ba oun naa je kanle ( He who destroys will
ultimately ends up in destruction).
"However, I have this bad news for Obasanjo. Nigeria is not
his football that he can kick around as he likes. President
Jonathan will be reelected, and Nigeria will be freed from
his (Obasanjo) bondage once and for all."

We'll recapture Borno, Adamawa, Yobe before elections - Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has assured the international community that the nation's armed forces would recapture territories held by Boko Haram in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states before the general elections.

The president who spoke while hosting members of the diplomatic community in Nigeria to a cocktail party at the State House, Abuja on Friday, noted the challenge posed by terrorist activities to the nation's development.

Jonathan explained that the adjustment of the dates of the conduct of election was necessary to provide some reasonable level of security for the smooth implementation of the exercise, saying that the tension that followed the announcement was, therefore, not necessary.

He argued the six weeks period of postponement of the election was not met to wipe out Boko Haram as has been misconstrued in some quarters but for the military to prepare well and modify the security infrastructure.

Wole Soyinka: No One Should Vote For Jonathan-He Has Shown A Total Failure In Leadership

Prof. Wole Soyinka, declared on Thursday that no one should vote for the continuation of President Goodluck Jonathan’s government, saying that there has been a total failure in leadership. He said he has sixty reasons not to vote for the Jonathan regime. “I will not vote and I will not encourage anyone to vote for the continuation of this government, simply because your colleagues numbering over two hundred were kidnapped, ” Soyinka told students at the 2015 edition of Vision of the Child (VOTC), a yearly programme inaugurated in 2012. He said the Chibok girls kidnapped on 14 April of last year were sent on a mission to acquire an education, but ended up being kidnapped. “And the government of this nation failed to show leadership. So anyone who says after that event that I will vote or cast my vote or encourage anyone to vote for this regime must be living in Sambisa forest,” Soyinka said, referring to a forest in Borno State where the Chibok girls are believed to be held by Boko Haram. “There has been a failure of leadership. Our children whom you represent today have been betrayed,” Soyinka said, adding that no appropriate action was taken to retrieve them. Soyinka said it took the Jonathan government ten days to even accept that the Chibok girls were even missing. “After that dereliction of duty, after that failure of leadership, after that betrayal for our future, for anyone to think or to put words in my mouth suggesting that I will vote or encourage anyone to vote for this regime is a travesty of intelligence, ” Soyinka said. Soyinka laughed off those who had claimed on the social media that he was dead, telling journalists at the event that they should not misquote him. If they do, he added, he will rise from the dead to correct them. The 2015 edition of Vision of the Child has for theme “The Road to Sambisa”. This year, a total of 250 student participants from 60 primary and secondary schools within Lagos attended the interview. The age bracket for the participants was 9 to 12 years. Their entries were assessed by a panel of eminent judges comprising teachers, artists, child carers and social workers. The finalists will be invited on the 7 March to the National Conversation Foundation Park. Lekki, and provided with brush, paint and easel, and will be required to illustrate their literary presentation in the complementary medium painting. This year, 60 finalists were drawn from 35 schools within Lagos State, said Foluke George, Festival Secretary and Programme Manager for the Vision of the Child.

One week and some days to Election, politice splits Nigeria pastors

igerian Christians at home and abroad will be shocked by the reported crass opportunism of some of their religious leaders as next week’s presidential polls draw closer, SaharaReporters has learned. Ayo Oritsejafor Authoritative sources disclose that during a meeting of Christian leaders held recently, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor expressed a strangely personal reason why he is not supporting the clamor of Nigerians for change in the country. Oritsejafor told his colleagues at the event, which was convened at the Redemption Camp of the Redeemed Christian Church of God on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that oil bloc leases are due for renewal this year, and if the Buhari-Osinbajo ticket prevails, his chances of owning one would diminish. “The oil in my father’s backyard,” he specifically said. “I don’t own one bloc, and all these Northerners have oil blocs!” The CAN president has been known to be an ardent supporter of President Goodluck Jonathan, and anopponent of his leading challenger, General Mohammadu Buhari. What shocked many of the Christian leaders at the meeting, howver, was his message that he was less interested in good governance or the killing of innocent Nigerians by Boko Haram in the Northeastern part of Nigeria, and more so about his desire to also own an oil bloc this year. Reported to be an even more vocal supporter of Jonathan at the meeting was Bishop David Oyedepowho reportedly said it would be an insult to have any of the Christian leaders at the meeting to vote for Buhari. At a point, a respected pastor, Bishop Mike Okonkwo of TREM, lambasted the meeting for not inviting Pastor Yemi Osinbajo to witness the meeting, being himself a Christian leader and pastor. According to Okonkwo, the least the Christian leaders could have done was invite Osinbajo and hear from him, adding that not doing that was “an act of cowardice.” Oyedepo, our source said, did not take kindly to that suggestion from a Bishop of equal caliber, and demanded an apology from Okonkwo. Okonkwo, equally annoyed, insisted on his position and refused to offer an apology at the tension-filled meeting. Sources said the conveners of the meeting did not want to invite Osinbajo as the candidates on the other ticketwere also not represented. But some sources at the meeting said it was a disgrace that a fellow pastor at their level, running for Vice-President was not even allowed to sit in at the meeting which was convened under the banner of the Nigerian Apostolic Coalition, membership of which he was entitled to. While Oyedepo maintained his advocacy for President Jonathan at the meeting, at times in vehement anger and outright disrespect for the opposing views of the other pastors, a leading Bishop from the North spoke up against the plans of Oyedepo and Oritsejafor to mobilize support for the president. Christian leaders in the North have always criticized the lust of some Southern Christian leaders for material things making them not to empathize with the sufferings of the Christians in the North, who are facing persecution. Bishop Jonas Katung of the Maranatha Churchin Josexplained that President Jonathan has done nothing in the past four years deserving of a second term. Katung, who is known as the Lion of Jos, was ordained Bishop in Jos by RCCG’s Pastor E.A. Adeboye in 2013. He strongly advocated that the Buhari-Osinbajo ticket should be given a chance given the level of failure of the incumbent. Pastor Mathew Kasali of the Foundation of Truth Assembly in Lagos also spoke passionately at the meeting, calling on the Christian leaders to remain neutral and not become encumbered with partisan issues for any reason. He also supported Bishop Okonkwo that Pastor Osinbajo, “who is one of us,” should be allowed to address the meeting. A source at the meeting disclosed that the national clamor for change in the country as being captured by the Buhari- Osinbajo ticket has now become a source of great fear by several Christian leaders in the Southern part of the country, essentially because of their own selfish interests. He asked in disappointment, “Where is the fear of God in the lives of some of these leaders?”

Nigeria-born British actor laments lack of diversity on UK screens

British actor, David Oyelowo, has criticised TV bosses for ignoring "the real" British history by not casting black actors in period dramas, Tribune reports. The 38-year-old, who plays Martin Luther King in Hollywood's new film, Selma, left Britain for the US in 2007. He told journalists that a lack of roles for black actors in Britain had left him and others frustrated. "I shouldn't have to feel like I have to move to America to have a notable career," he says. The Golden Globe best actor nominee claims many talented black actors who chose to say in the UK aren't getting "the opportunities worthy of them." He says: "I can't say the same of my white peers," adding "there's a string of black British actors passing through where I live now in LA. "We make period dramas in Britain, but there are almost never black people in them, even though we've been on these shores for hundreds of years. 14-Yr-Old Boy Rapes, Kills Own 11-Yr-Old Sister

A 14-year-old boy has been sentenced to life in prison for defiling as well as killing his younger sister. Ronald Salazar defiled and killed own 11-year-old sister, Marina Estefani Salazar, in Florida. Radar reports: However, Salazar, who is now 24 years old, is heading back to court for resentencing after the Supreme Court barred mandatory life sentences for juveniles. The decision was made after research showed that young people's brains are more susceptible to impulses and to the influence of others. At his first trial, Salazar told the court that he had been abandoned by his parents when they made their way to the United States from El Salvador. He said that he was left with an abusive family until he was 10 years old, when his family finally called him to make the three trip through the Arizona desert and join them in Miami, where he was treated as an outcast. The boy said that when he finally arrived in the United States, he did not feel welcomed by his parents, Samuel and Nuvia Salazar. They allegedly told him that they had a more difficult life than him, and therefore, he did not have the right to complain. Salazar said that he was mentally scarred by his parents' decision to abandon him in El Salvador, where he was sexually abused since the age of 7, and by their lack of acceptance when he finally reunited with them. During the trial, the court heard that he hated his parents and killed his sister as an act of revenge. It took a jury just two hours to convict him after prosecutors presented DNA evidence and a confession.
