Katsina health workers vow to continue with strike

www.gladys.mysyntek.comKatsina - The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has vowed to sustain its strike in Katsina state despite threat by the State Government to withhold salary of members. The union comprises nurses and midwives, health technicians and other health related workers. The union’s Secretary, Sani Yusuf, stated this on Thursday in Katsina during in a press conference. He said that the decision followed the inability of the state government to meet their demands. "At the beginning of the strike, we agreed to render skeletal services in emergency, dialysis and maternity units in hospitals to assist people. "Unfortunately, the state government failed to appreciate our efforts, it introduced the policy of no-work-no-pay, which was implemented only in Katsina state,’’ he said. He, therefore, urged JOHESU members to remain at home until further directives from the union. "We are calling on our members to exercise patience, nothing will happen to anyone despite intimidation and threats, resist all pressures until we succeed,’’ he said. Yusuf also informed the general public that the strike was necessary for the members to achieve their legitimate right.
