Out-going C’River REC tasks INEC staff on ethical standard, morals

Out-going Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in
Cross River State, Barr.Mike Igini, has charged staff of
the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
in the state not to compromise or surrender the
commission`s values to desperate politicians.
Rather, he urged them to display enough courage and
resist attempts by politicians to manipulate them.
Igini gave the charge yesterday at the commissioning of
multi-purpose INEC conference hall in Calabar, the
state capital. The hall was named Democracy Hall.
The Cross Rivers REC also urged the staff to remain
committed to credible, free and fair elections as the
nations enters another rounds of elections next month.
Said he, "Strive and Show Nigeria electorates that you
can afford to restore the pride of the nation`s electoral
institution by proving to the people that you are a
credible electoral umpire," Igini said.
The REC also appealed to the staff to guard against pre-
writing of election result, ballot box snatching and
stuffing of thumb-printed ballot papers.
He maintained that by so doing they would re-assure
Nigerians that they were an unbiased electoral umpire.
Also speaking at the event, Administrative Officer to the
Commission in the state, Mrs. Immaculata Asuquo, said
that staff of the commission would extend the same
measure of cooperation to the new REC.
